As luck would have it we have timed our trip perfectly because tonight was the Annual Gala Dinner and fundraiser for Ensena. This provides around 10% of their funding and is where the big end of town puts their hand in their pocket and donates. There were around 500 people and SAP bought a table so Tina, Paul and I were invited to attend along with colleagues from SAP Buenos Aires office. The National Minister for Education attended and Ensena received a recognition award from the government acknowledging their good work and the impact they are having. That was a special moment.
There were paintings for auction, lucky door prizes for everyone who filled in a donation form, and a tombola where everyone with a ticket wins a prize. As luck would have it I won the lucky draw prize which is high tea for two at the Park Royal. We all buoght tombola tickets and came home with some new clothing items. The night was a huge success and raised over 1,500,000 pesos or A$150,000. Well above expectations so lots of happy people. Having worked for the last four weeks with the staff and meeting teachers and alumni so passionate and committed to the purpose it was a good bookend to see the business end of town get together and support the cause. It is an understatement to say we felt very privileged to be there. The Chairman of the Board and CEO took time to come and say hello and thank us for our work, and all the staff who were working on the night kept coming to our table to chat and treat us like family. It was very special. These people are amazing and I know there will be tears when we all say farewell in a few days.
