Statues
Buenos Aires has a penchant for statues. Every roundabout, park and street corner seems to have one. It feels very European. According to Wikipedia 97% of the population is from European descent, not surprising a large numer are of Spanish decent as they occupied Argentina until their independence from Spain in 1816 . Also the Italian population in Argentina is the second largest in the world, by numbers, outside of Italy, some 25 million people, which is just over half of Argentinas total poulation. So you could say Argentina is 50:50 Spanish, Italian. That explains why most of my meals have been pizza or empanada and off course steak but that is because of the strong beef industry not the ethic mix.
Gardens
| For those who know me well understand my need to be connected to the earth; I like to get my hands dirty and I love gardens. I spent a tranquil Saturday afternoon strolling through the Japanese Gardens. It was a welcome reprieve from the cut and thrust of the city. Also after 3 weeks of being with people all my waking hours it was nice to take some time out on my own and enjoy the peace and serenity. I particularly liked the Japanese garden and whilst this isnt providing you with an Argentine cutural fix it is beautiful so Im sharing. And dont stop reading now because the next story is on MALBA and it is a must see......... |
MALBA
Museum of Art Latinamericano Buenos Aires
Such interesting art, a great space to view them in and visually stimulating. Its not a large museum, three floors and only a few galleries on each, but the quality is great. Their is nothing you walk past and arent intrigued by the medium, the story it tells, the visual impact, or just the pleasure of seeing something unique and different. Here are some of my favourites PS: I did do 8 hours of work on the weekend and am pretty close to finalising the strategy document ready for presentation. Might have it nailed by the end of tonight. Its 8pm, I have a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers. PPS: Happy Anzac Day, even though its still the 24th here its well past dawn on Anzac Day in Australia. Lest we forget. Hope you are wearing my namesake. xxxx PPPS: Hope you are still enjoying my blog
